The airfield memorial at Harrington, which is sited alongside the Harrington to Lamport Road near Foxhall Farm, was dedicated in September 1987. In the years since then the condition of the memorial had deteriorated and it had been subject to some vandalism.
Substantial parts of the memorial were therefore temporarily removed from the site at the end of August and the memorial has now been renovated and refurbished by Phil Langmead of Barham Stone Ltd at Desborough. These works are being financed by the 801st/492nd Bomb Group Association in America who originally had the memorial erected back in 1987.
Following these works it has been decided to re-dedicate the memorial and this will take place at the Harrington airfield memorial as part of the Remembrance Sunday ceremony on the 10th November 2019. This ceremony will include an Honor Guard from the United States Air Force and the memorial will be unveiled by a representative of the 352nd Special Operations Wing at RAF Mildenhall, who include the 801st/492nd Bomb Group in their ancestry.
Those who wish to attend this re-dedication and remembrance ceremony are welcome to muster at the memorial site at 10.15am on Sunday the 10th November 2019. Following the ceremony, complimentary light refreshments will be available at the Carpetbagger Aviation Museum
